iBioGO Racial Justice Statement
I. Purpose
The purpose of the Integrative Biology Graduate Student Organization (iBioGO) is to increase interactions among integrative biology graduate students; encourage student involvement in departmental academic and administrative affairs; and provide leadership opportunities through participation in departmental committees and committees of student-led activities.
II. Activities
The iBioGO activities include the fall and spring semester welcome week events, community outreach events, and monthly graduate student informal meetings. iBioGO monthly meetings allow time for graduate students to gather, receive information about department updates, and discuss ways to improve the quality of life of graduate students in the Department of Integrative Biology. Speakers may be invited to talk about specific topics, but the meeting format is flexible month to month. The iBioGO officers are responsible for creating the meeting schedule, inviting speakers, and notifying members about upcoming meetings at least 1 week in advance. Officers also handle RSVP forms, food catering, and recording meeting head counts and notes.
III. iBioGO Membership
Membership is open to all University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate students and post-docs whose advisor is in the Department of Integrative Biology (including zero-time appointments).
IV. Officers
The iBioGO officer committee is composed of a President, Social Chair, Treasurer, Outreach Coordinator, Colloquium Grad Representative, and the DEI Grad Rep. All positions have atleast a one year term, (s)elected at the final spring meeting in May. Present officers and representatives should meet once a month (prior to the iBioGO meetings). To better fulfill the officer’s mandate, it would be preferable (although not mandatory) that the organizers be distributed among the three main iBio buildings (Zoology Research, Birge Hall, and the Center for Limnology).
